Loralee McGuirl is known for
expressionist paintings of still life, portraits and for her more recent
plaster sculptures of draped figures.
Since early in her career, Loralee has
been impressed by the aesthetics of Ancient Greece and the Renaissance.
She traveled through Europe and
documented the statuary and embellishments of European monuments, people and
landscapes. Loralee accumulated an abundant body of photographs that became the
source of new paintings and sculptures.
In her work, Loralee seeks to balance
materialism with spiritualism by bringing the gracious elegance of classical
art into play. She achieves depth and life in her paintings, busts and
sculptures through an abstraction of colour and her treatment of space, light
and shape.
Loralee McGuirl studied at McMaster
University and graduated with a degree in Art and Music in 2004.
