HEALTH WATCH

As a teacher in the school system I run into germs every day and as a defense I take a few things to boost my immune system.
I am happy to share a few things that have worked for me and could work for you as well. I get calls on a regular basis from friends and students asking me what they should take for their cold or illness. Often times I am performing and need to be in top shape so over the years I have discovered many natural remedies to cure the common cold, flu, stomach upset and many other ailments.

I shop at Goodness Me! (Upper Gage and the Link or Locke Street in Hamilton)

Good things to have in the cupboard:

Deep Immune - I take this almost everyday.  It is an energy tonic and boosts the immune system.
Manuka Honey (Active 16+) - Amazing! Originally used by Ancient Egyptians who used to pack their wounds with this honey and use it to cure impurities internally and externally. It is now used in Hospitals in Canada. I take just a very small amount (1/4 teaspoon) and eat it straight to soothe the throat and fight infection. It can be placed on scrapes and burns.  I burned myself with boiling tea and the only thing that relieved the pain was Manuka Honey.  That Second Degree burn healed fast and what should have been a large scar is a barely noticeable mark.

Oil of Oregano (Wild. Plus 1:1) - *Very Strong. I only use 2-5 drops. This is like bringing out the big guns in the war against bad germs. It cleanses and kills off the infection.
Grapefruit Seed Extract
Slippery Elm - Soothes the throat and calms the stomach

Umcka - Cures the common cold
Flax Seed
Fish Oil (Omega 3-6-9) - Good for skin and digestion.

Respiractive - Not as powerful as Respiracleanse but it tastes better and works well for getting rid of a small cough.
Respiracleanse -  for that persistent cough...this works incredibly well and fast.

*****I am not a doctor. I'm just saying these things have worked for me and could possibly work for you!******

S
tress levels are at a all time high in North American culture.  Everyone is busy and we barely have time to ourselves to take a second and breathe!  Even kids lead busy lives now, going from dance class to karate to soccer practice and of course...music lessons.
It's very important while enjoying all the activities in life not to let life pass us by but stop and smell the roses so to speak. We need to take time to get into creative modes and express ourselves. It fulfills our souls.

So how can we relax?
Concentrate on BREATHING.  Sitting comfortably on a solid surface breathe in for 4 counts, hold it for 4 counts and then release it slowly for 8 counts and repeat this process 6 times.

Breathe in slowly and fill up your entire body with air and then slowly release the air and repeat this deep breathing exercise 5-1- times in a row.

Check your body tension levels.
Start with your face muscles and smile with your eyes and then release your muscles. Then release your neck muscles and then your shoulders down into your hands and finger tips. Breathe in deep and as you breathe out, relax your torso.  Let your leg muscles go and unlock your knees. Then rotate your ankles and release your feet.

Try the Rag Doll Position
Stand feet shoulder width apart and knees unlocked.  Breathe deeply throughout this entire exercise.  Start with your chin towards your chest and head and neck completely relaxed.  Let your arms hang by your sides and feel heavy.  Slowly fall forwards so that your arms and head are hanging loosely and your back is open and relaxed.  Go down as far as you can, as though you were trying to touch your toes.  With your knees unlocked, remain hung over in this position long enough to take in three big breaths.  Then slowly rise making sure your head is the last to come up.

This exercise feels amazing and re energized yet peaceful and relaxed.  It's perfect for when you wake up and don't feel like you've had a good sleep or during the day when you become tense and irritable.

It takes about 5 minutes and can set you up for a much brighter day!

If you've tried it, let me know how you felt afterward.
Good Luck!

Stay calm and think positive.  Laughing, smiling, telling a clean joke or giving a compliment are great ways of relieving tension.
